Board Treasurer
Barbara loves seeing youth come to have a personal relationship with Jesus. She especially delights to see God grow a desire in a student’s heart to serve Him. One of her favorite things is to hear of a student who wants a Bible to take home with them.
She always wanted to be a secretary so she took business classes and God has used those skills while she served as Ministry Assistant at the North Spartan Baptist Association for 25 years prior to her retirement. Barbara gladly uses the administrative skills the Lord has given her to serve as SMSC’s treasurer. She is delighted to see how God has grown the finances to be able to have the staff that is currently needed to run the ministry. Her dream is to see Bible classes in more schools so that additional students will have the opportunity to know they are loved, cared for and might come to know Christ.
In addition to seeing the value of financial resources, Barbara also recognizes the importance of praying for everyone who has a part of the ministry and the students that attend. Since retiring, she serves as the monitor for the Shoally Creek Elementary class. The students love her and some even save her a seat on the bus. She enjoys seeing the students’ excitement as they come to class eager to learn.
Barbara loves people and makes everyone feel welcomed into any group. It is not uncommon to hear her encouraging others with the wisdom she has gained from God’s Word and her time with Him to taste and see that the Lord is good (Psalm 34:8). She is active in several aspects of her church and finds joy in participating in mission projects that help those in need. She and her husband, Gene, have been married for 9 years. Together, they have 5 children and 10 grandchildren. When Barbara isn’t spending time cooking delicious dishes, she enjoys being with family, friends, and reading.
