Dan’s reason for participating in SMSC is very clear:
We are reaching children for Christ. Some of them have never been in a church.
We teach them about Jesus and how having a relationship with Him here on
earth will lead to a relationship with Him in heaven.
His compassion for people has a long history and varied expressions. Shortly after finishing his Bachelor’s in math, he found himself in Vietnam as a Chaplain’s Assistant. But even earlier than that, God stirred Dan’s heart as a boy in a mission group and drew him in to a personal relationship with Jesus. God used these and other experiences to give Dan a passion for getting the Word of God into hands of students. He was instrumental in securing a large number of Bibles for Released Time Bible classes. Not only did he help transport them from Charlotte, he also stored a good number of them in his home until they could be distributed.
God also prepared Dan’s mind for serving by leading him back to college for an MBA and then to work for Milliken in 1971 where he worked in computer programming until his retirement in 2006. Dan’s career was filled with problem solving, a skill which he has used to benefit the ministry as he has served in several different roles. He desires to continue to use his abilities and time to help SMSC enter more schools so that more students can have a relationship with Jesus.
Dan has been married to the love of his life, Linka, for 53 years. They have one son, a daughter-in-law and two granddaughters. He enjoys restoring bicycles for youth in need as a part of a ministry of his church. In his spare time, you might find him restoring old cars or attending a car show.
